Is it weird that I like grooming horses than riding horses?

riding horses
Elana A asked:

Maybe its because I have only had 2 lessons…im making riding my athletics so i have to ride about 3 times a week, and the other two days I work around the stable…is it weird that I like grooming the horse better than riding? Is it because Im still learning posting and such?

No it’s not I’ve ridden since I was about 7 and now I’m 11 and still riding but I still love grooming more than riding I also love mucking out stalls!

That is what you are suppose to do!

I’m 15 but I feel that way sometimes….maybe cos grooming and mucking out is less stressful or something…i find it q relaxing!

as you learn you’ll enjoy riiding more but its good you are learning more general things about horses, rather than just riding them. you will get to be a better horsewoman! also mcking out etcx is rewarding :P

Its not odd if you’ve only had two lessons. Actuallym, grooming seems interesting to a lot of people. Soon you will become addicted to riding though. I’m not kidding, sometimes it gets so out of hand! Just ask me…

Its not weird & not because you are still learning. Its because by nature you are caring.

my stable is very small, i am usually the only one their so i really enjoy grooming because it is very calming to me plus i get to bond with my horse. it kind of gets me ready to ride, it gives me time to think “okay, i need to keep my heels down, i got to slow him down around that far turn, release over my jumps….”

hopefully after a wile you will enjoy riding more. that is so odd though, after my first lesson i was hooked. i wanted to spend as much time in the saddle as i could! i guess that pretty soon you will see if riding is really for you or if you just enjoy being around horses but not riding-which is totally okay!

Yea, it happens. I have been riding my whole life (literally) and I am 16 now, and still somedays I just go out to the barn and just give my horses a good brush. I’m not saying that I like it better than riding, but sometimes it is nice to just relax with your horse and give them a day off. They love it too!

No! Its not weird at all! In fact, it shows a greater level of maturity than people who only like to go fast on their horses. You understand that the way to bond with a horse isn’t only riding, but also getting to know the horse through ground work and care. Good Job!

No. Sometimes I like to groom my horse more tha riding her. Grooming is really good becuase you get to know the horse in his/her personality.

no in fact too many people think they can only be good if they spend all hours God made ON the horse.

actully grooming and tacking up and mucking out help equally as much as riding because you get to see how the horse moves and behaves on the ground.

i think grooming and ground work are equally as important as riding and i dont think you should let anyome else tell you otherwise.

No its not weird.I dont want to ride horses because i want to groom them so much.Yesturday i spent 2 hours outside grooming my horses when i could have been riding them!

    its not weird
you like being close to the horses
creating a bond is better than getting on and expecting a horse to trust you.
i used to love grooming them as too riding, and also mucking out.
